Round Rock Express News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A night after putting up a Triple-A franchise record 20 runs, the Round Rock Express (69-62) overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Nashville Sounds (51-80) 7-5 Tuesday night at Greer Stadium.

The Express got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the second inning. Third baseman Alex Buchholz hit a one-out double and came around to score two batters later on a single off the bat of Jim Adduci to give Round Rock an early 1-0 lead.

Express starter Ryan Feierabend held the Sounds offense to just two hits through the first three innings, allowing just one baserunner to reach scoring position. He unraveled in the fourth and got no help from a shaky defense. He gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Sounds designated hitter Robinson Diaz reached base on a fielding error by Guilder Rodriguez to load the bases with no outs. In the next at-bat, Express catcher Robinson Chirinos was tagged with his sixth passed ball of the season, allowing the first Nashville run to score. Feierabend gave up a single to put Nashville ahead 2-1 and then hit a batter to reload the bases without recording an out. Stephen Parker singled down the line to give the Sounds another run and keep the bases loaded. Yangervis Solarte recorded the first out of the inning on an infield fly. Feierabend got Kentrail Davis to ground out for the second out, but not before another run crossed the dish making it 4-1 Sounds. A bunt single knocked in the fifth run of the inning and ended the night for Feierabend after 3.2 innings of work. Manager Bobby Jones went to the bullpen for RHP Johan Yan to close out the inning. With two men on, Yan got Eugenio Velez to line out for the final out of the inning.

The Express chipped away at Nashville's four-run lead in the top of the fifth. Solarte drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a double from Joey Butler. Designated hitter Chris McGuiness drew a five-pitch walk to load the bases. With Aaron Cunningham at the plate, Sounds starter Johnny Hellweg uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Solarte to score and the runners to advance. Chirinos hit a RBI single to cut the Nashville lead to two and chase Hellweg from the game. With reliever Jesus Sanchez on the mound, McGuiness and Chirinos pulled off a double steal to get both runners in scoring position. One out later, Rodriguez singled for the final run of the inning to put the Express within one run, 5-4.

LHP Michael Kirkman replaced Yan to start off the fifth inning. He threw 5.0 hitless innings to close out the game for Nashville, allowing just one walk and striking out seven.

Round Rock's offense wasn't ready to give up yet and kept the hits coming in the sixth inning. Engel Beltre and Solarte led off with back-to-back singles. Two outs later, Cunningham hit a triple to plate two runs and give the Express the lead 6-5. It was the first time this season Cunningham had consecutive multi-RBI games after knocking in five runs in last night's contest.

The Express added an insurance run in the seventh to give them a two-run cushion. Buchholz and Rodriguez hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. With Adduci at the plate, a wild pitch advanced the runners, allowing Buchholz to score on a sacrifice fly four pitches later.

The Nashville bullpen allowed just one more Express hit over the final 2.0 innings for the 7-5 final. Kirkman picked up his first win in his rehab assignment with the Express, improving to 1-2. Sanchez was tagged with the loss, dropping to 4-3. With this win, the Express have extended their win streak to three games for the first time since July 27-29 at Memphis.

The Express returns to Dell Diamond for the final homestand of the regular season tomorrow, August 21 to open a five-game series against Oklahoma City. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Keep up with the Express on Facebook and Twitter!
