Aces Drop Series Finale to Grizzlies, 4-2

August 20, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

FRESNO, Calif.- The Aces held a one-run lead in the sixth inning, but couldn't hold on, and fell to the Grizzlies 4-2 in the series finale.

Both offenses struggled early on, until Fresno's Gary Brown delivered an RBI single in the fifth inning, and gave the Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage.

LHP Eric Surkamp stifled the Aces lineup through the first five innings, but quickly coughed up his one-run lead in the sixth. After allowing the first two batters to reach base in the top of the sixth, Surkamp later gave up an RBI single by Ed Easley and a sacrifice fly by Juan Rivera.

LHP Tyler Skaggs was handed his first lead of the night for Reno, but couldn't hold on for long. Guillermo Quiroz drove in a pair of runners with an RBI double, and Fresno re-gained the lead at 3-2.

The Grizzlies tacked on an additional run late in the ballgame against the Aces bullpen, and would hold on for a 4-2 victory.

Surkamp (6-1) earned the victory for Fresno, after only allowing 2 ER in 7.0 IP.

Brad Snyder, the reigning PCL Player-of-the-Week, continued his hot hitting at the plate, and racked up another two hits. In his last 11 games, Snyder has recorded six multi-hit efforts, and is batting 18-for-42 (.429) over that span.

Tomorrow the Aces return to Reno for the last homestand of the season. RHP Zeke Spruill (4-4, 3.38 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Salt Lake Bees counter with RHP Tommy Hanson (0-0, 1.80 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all of the action can be heard live on KPLY 630 AM.

Tickets are available for Reno's final home series against Salt Lake from Aug. 21-25 at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
