January 13, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Brandon, MB - Despite trailing three different times Friday night, the Medicine Hat Tigers found their way to a 4-3 regulation victory against the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place.

Brandon took their first lead of the game on a Tigers power play as Nolan Ritchie would beat Tigers starter Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) at 5:12 on an odd man rush short handed. But the Tigers would find the 1st period equalizer 8:26 later as Cru Hanas (Highland Village, TX) would feed Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) for his 3rd of the season to make things all square art 1-1. Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) would add an assist on the mark.

Off to the 2nd period where once again Brandon would score on the power play from Nate Danielson at 12:47 but on the ensuing shift Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) would re-direct his 9th of the season from a Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) point shot at 14:21 as it would be another stalemate heading to the third of 2-2 as the Tigers outshot the Wheat Kings 18-6 in the frame and a two period total of 26-14.

It was the same story in the third, despite giving up the go-ahead goal from Evan Groening for Brandon, cue the Tigers abilities to battle back shined through again as Melin would get his second of the night beating Wheaties goaltender Carson Bjarnason short side top shelf from St. Martin and Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) to tie the game up at 12:45.

Cue Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) with a great individual effort as he banked the puck off the wall in front of the Tigers bench and snuck in between the Brandon defence and beating Bjarnason to gives the Tigers their first and only lead of 4-3 with 3:01 left in regulation.

The Wheat Kings would push with an empty net but Evan May would get his second straight win on the road insuring the Tigers 15th win of the season.

Medicine Hat would outshoot the Wheat Kings 38-23, go 0/2 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill.

Hunter St. Martin & Dallon Melin would have three points earning themselves three stars honours on the night.

The win moves the Tigers to 15-20-5-1 and just two points back of Brandon for 9th in the Eastern Conference standings.

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Winnipeg to face the ICE for the 2nd time this year and 1st time at Wayne Flemming Arena. Game time is set for 7 PM MT/ST, you can catch the game on the home of the Tigers, WILD 94.5 with Gino De Paoli starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:45.
