Messing with Moose Jaw

As they have with every team on this trip, the Winterhawks are facing an unfamiliar foe this evening. Only three players - goaltender Dante Giannuzzi, forward James Stefan and forward Robbie Fromm-Delorme - on the current roster have played in Moose Jaw as WHLers before.

Their last meeting in 2020 was a romp for the Hawks, winning 11-2 on home ice. On the road, the Hawks have fared quite well in the Friendly City, having not lost there since 2012.

(Fun fact: Giannuzzi is the Winterhawks' leading active scorer against the Warriors with two assists in their last meeting!)

Central Scouting Skaters

The NHL's Central Scouting department today released the midterm rankings for the 2023 NHL Draft next summer, featuring five players from tonight's matchup. On Portland's side, Luca Cagnoni (#34 skater), Carter Sotheran (#89 skater) and Jan Špunar (#11 goalie) cracked the North American rankings, while Brayden Yager (#5 skater) and Jackson Unger (#17 goalie) represented the Warriors.

Grab your popcorn - there's a lot of talent on display tonight!

Building Momentum

The road trip may not have started how they wanted with two losses in Manitoba, but the Winterhawks have rebounded in Saskatchewan with two wins, including a character victory against an impressive Saskatoon club on Wednesday. As the final two games of the journey come into view against more tough competition, the Hawks will be looking for a strong finish heading into a handful of home games in the back half of the month.

"Obviously we want to finish with two wins this weekend...with the wins over PA and Saskatoon, we've created some momentum and we feel ready for another back-to-back against Moose Jaw and Regina. Hopefully, we can get these two games and carry that momentum into some big games on home ice," said defenseman Josh Mori.
