Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Red Deer, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings saw their win streak come to an end on Friday night as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Red Deer Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
The Rebels pelted 18 shots the way of the Edmonton net in the opening 20 minutes and were rewarded with a 1-0 at the first intermission.
On a delayed penalty to the Oil Kings, the Rebels worked the puck to the front of the Edmonton net and after Craig Armstrong was stoned by Kolby hay from in tight, Jace Isley came up with the rebound and deposited it to the back of the net to give the home-side the advantage at the 12:52 mark.
The Oil Kings were inches from tying the game in the late stages of the period after Noah Boyko made a great pass while seated on the ice to Rhett Melnyk in the slot who rang a hot-shot off the post in-behind Red Deer netminder Rhett Stoesser.
In the second period, it would be the Oil Kings peppering the oppositions net as they got 14 shots the way of Stoesser and an early one would find the back of the cage.
Just 3:44 into the second period, Loick Daigle, in his first game with the Oil Kings, blocked a point-shot in his zone, raced the length of the ice on a breakaway and tucked a backhand deke between the legs of Stoesser to level the score at one.
The Oil Kings threatened throughout the period to take the lead but could not find a go-ahead marker and had to settle for the one-all deadlock at the second intermission.
In the third period, the Rebels took just 94 seconds to retake the lead after Jhett Larson capitalized on a shorthanded rush on a nifty setup from Ollie Josephson.
The Rebels expanded their lead to two just over three minutes later with a power play from Kalan Lind after he had a Kai Uchacz shot go in off his body inside the Edmonton crease.
The Oil Kings fired 15 more shots at the Red Deer net in the third period but could solve Stoesser for a second time. In the final minute, Jace Weir hit the empty net to salt the game away for the Rebels.
Both goaltenders finished the night with 34 saves. The Oil Kings went 0-for-5 on the power play, the Rebels were 1-for-2.
Next up, the Oil Kings return home tomorrow night to take on the Prince Albert Raiders at 7:00 P.M.
