Reno Aces News Release
Today's Game: Coming off a victorious series opener in Albuquerque, the Aces will send top pitching prospect Jon Duplantier to the mound Wednesday night. Duplantier will square off against 'Topes southpaw Evan Grills. Juniel Querecuto joined the Reno roster last night, going 3-for-5 with two runs in his 2019 Aces debut.
10 Spot: The Aces set their 2019 season-high in runs last night in a 10-1 victory at Isotopes Park. Two five-run innings propelled Reno to their fourth win of the season. Five runs are the most scored by the Aces in a single inning this year. The previous high of three was accomplished nine times this year. Their single-inning record in 2018 was seven, set on June 17 vs. Omaha.
That's A First: Justin Donatella earned the first Triple-A win of his career last night. Donatella went six innings, allowed one run on five hits and struck out five. The right-hander out of UC San Diego was a 15th round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015. He started and pitched the first three innings in the Jackson Generals' (AA-Diamondbacks) combined no-hitter over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (AA-Marlins) on June 14, 2018, the first no-hitter for the Jackson/West Tenn franchise of any kind since 1999 (David Manning).
Baseball History: On this date in 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings defeated the rival Amateurs, 24-15, in baseball's first professional game. Team captain Harry Wright had put all of his players under contract, making the club, that will become known as the Reds, the first pro team in sports history.
See you later 2x: Travis Snider became the first Aces player of the year to hit two home runs in a single game. The last time a player on the Reno roster had accomplished this feat was on August 3, 2018, with Jamie Westbrook. The last time Snider had two homers in a single game was on August 11, 2014, with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Climbing the Ship: Braden Shipley tossed two scoreless innings last night, striking out three of the nine batters he faced. In his Aces career, Shipley has K'd 215 batters in an Aces uniform, second-most in franchise history. Charles Brewer holds the franchise record with 307.
JQ: Juniel Querecuto's return to the Aces starting lineup provided a needed spark last night. Querecuto had a breakout season in 2018 with Reno. The infielder hit .315 for the Aces in 68 games and had 94 total bases. Between Double-A and Triple-A, JQ hit .337 with 141 hits and 45 RBI.
