TODAY'S OPPONENT: The New Orleans Zephyrs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 1998. They were affiliated with the Houston Astros from 1997-2004.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks finish their series with New Orleans . The RedHawks are 23-11 in the last game of a series, winning their last 10. They are 9-11 on Thursdays. Fans can recieve a free ticket to any game the rest of the homestand for donating bottles of water to the relief effort for New Orleans at SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
STANDINGS: The RedHawks are in first place, one half game ahead of Albuquerque . Albuquerque hosts Round Rock at 7:05 p.m. central time.
LAST GAME: Starting pitcher Derek Lee's 23-inning scoreless streak ended in the eight, but Oklahoma held on for a 4-3 win. Lee gave up one run on five hits over 7.2 innings. Will Smith hit a two-run home run to start the scoring for the RedHawks and Ian Kinsler later added his 23rd home run of the year.
VS. NEW ORLEANS: The RedHawks are 69-56 against New Orleans and 34-28 at home against the Zephyrs all time.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Oklahoma's Kelvin Jimenez makes his fourth start of the season. As a starter, he is 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA [3ER, 16.1IP], three walks and 13 strikeouts. Matt White starts for New Orleans . He was named to the PCL postseason all-star team as the league's top left-handed pitcher.
STREAKERS: In his last 20 outings, pitcher Jose Veras has a 1.37 ERA [3ER, 19.2IP]. He has saves in his last six outings ... Esteban German has 16 steals without being caught and was last caught stealing July 27 at Tucson ... Catcher Gerald Laird is on a nine-game hitting streak dating back to July 20. He is 15-for-34 [.441] with seven RBIs during the streak, raising his average from .291 to .310.
IAN KINSLER: In his last 10 games, Ian Kinsler is 17-for-40 [.425] with four home runs and 12 RBIs. He has hits in eight and multi-hit games in five of the 10 games. He went five-for-six with four RBIs Aug. 25 at Omaha .
JASON BOTTS: Outfielder Jason Botts' 98 RBIs is the single-season RedHawks club record. Tom Quinlan [1998] and Scott Sheldon [1999] had 97.
PENNANT RACE: The three teams vying for the American Conference Southern Division title all have five games left coming into today. Oklahoma has five games at home, none on the road and four against teams with a .500 record or better. Albuquerque has one game at home, four on the road and one against teams with a .500 record or better. Round Rock has no games at home, five on the road and five against teams at .500 or better.
RUNS: The RedHawks have scored 862 runs this year, the most in club history. The record for most runs in a season by a RedHawks team was 844 by last year's team.
HOME RUNS: The RedHawks have hit 170 home runs this year, the most home runs hit by a RedHawks team in one season. The RedHawks hit 151 in 1999. That team went 83-59 and lost in the PCL Championship Series. Oklahoma's nine grand slams this year is the most in team history.
ATTENDANCE: Through 65 home openings, the RedHawks have drawn 501,389 fans [club record], an average of 7,714. Last year, they averaged 6,678 fans. In 1998, they averaged a franchise-record 7,221.
DOT-DOT-DOTS: Outfielder Jason Conti has been placed on the disabled list ... Infielder Jace Brewer has been promoted from Double-A Frisco ... Shortstop Drew Meyer has been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League. Meyer will represent the Rangers on the Grand Canyon Rafters, managed by Norfolk's Ken Oberkfell ... The RedHawks have used 34 pitchers so far this season. They used 30 all of last season ... Jason Botts' seven triples this year ties the single-season RedHawks record set by Kelly Dransfeldt in 2002.
