SALT LAKE CITY-The Angels recalled RHP Greg Jones from the Stingers on Thursday and purchased the contract of OF Curtis Pride from Salt Lake. In order to make room on the 40-man roster for Pride, INF Dallas McPherson was placed on the 60-day disabled list. RHP Brad Beck was transferred to extended- spring training in Mesa, AZ to Salt Lake on Thursday. The Stingers, winners of four straight games, host Colorado Springs tonight at Franklin Covey Field for the regular season home finale. With five games remaining on the 2005 schedule, the Stingers trail the Tacoma Rainiers by two games in the Pacific Northern Division.

Pride, 36, batted .125 (1-for-8) with one run scored and a double in seven games with the Angels this season. He was on the 15-day disabled list from May 30-June 22 due to a strained right wrist. Pride batted .289 (81-for-280) with 44 runs scored, 17 doubles, six triples, nine home runs and 56 RBI in 82 games for the Stingers in 2005. He originally had his contract selected from Salt Lake, May 21. His 56 RBI and ten stolen bases rank fifth on the Stingers this year.

Originally selected by New York Mets in 10th round of 1986 free agent draft, Pride owns a lifetime .252 (193-for-766) average with 19 home runs and 80 RBI in 395 games. He has played with 10 organizations (three twice) and six major league teams. Pride was acquired by the Angels as a free agent, Nov. 15, 2004. He tied the Salt Lake franchise record with four doubles in one game on July 26, 2004.

Jones, 28, struck out the side in the ninth inning at Portland last night to record his team-leading ninth save. The Clearwater, FL native posted a 1-2 record and 3.20 ERA (25.1 IP - 9 ER) with ten saves, six walks and 25 strikeouts in 23 games with the Stingers this season. The Pacific Coast League is batting only .215 against Jones. He pitched in only one game with the Angels this year, allowing one earned run on one hits in one inning. Jones missed the first two months of the 2005 campaign recovering from shoulder surgery. He had surgery on his right shoulder due to tendonitis in October, 2004. He began the season at double-Arkansas and in three games with the Travelers, Jones posted a 0-1 record and 2.70 ERA (3.1 IP - 1 ER) with one walk and two strikeouts. Jones went 1-4 with a 5.74 ERA (53.1 IP - 34 ER) with 19 walks and 43 strikeouts in 36 games for the Stingers in 2004. He earned a career-high seven victories in 39 games for the Stingers in 2002.

Jones had his contract purchased by the Angels from Salt Lake on July 30, 2003 and he made his Major League debut that night in the ninth inning against the New York Yankees (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO). He faced Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Jason Giambi and Jorge Posada in his debut. He appeared in 18 games with the Angels in 2003, posting no record and a 4.88 ERA (27.2 IP - 15 ER). He opened his Major League career with ten scoreless innings in seven games and retired 11of the first 18 batters he faced. He was teammates with RHP Mike Brunet in college and was signed by Orem Owlz manager Tom Kotchman. Originally drafted in the 42nd round of the 1996 free agent draft, Jones currently resides in Seminole, FL and is a volunteer HS football coach in the off-season.

Beck, 20, is in his first professional season. The Alexandria, VA native was signed as a non-drafted free agent on August 3, 2004. He attended Wakefield HS (Arlington, VA) and Montgomery County College (Tacoma Park, MD). He joined the Stingers from extended spring training.
