Tucson drops home finale 5-4 to Portland

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders lost 5-4 to the Portland Beavers on Thursday night. The Sidewinders took an early 2-1 lead after 2 innings but it didn't last long as the Beavers scored 2 in the 4th and 2 in the 5th to take the lead. The Sidewinders would add 2 more runs the rest of the way but lost 5-4.

The Sidewinders were led offensively by SS Sergio Santos and 2B Brian Barden. Santos went 2-for-4 with 2 runs, a home run and an RBI. Barden went 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Infielder Andy Green was honored in an on field ceremony prior to tonight's game. Green was named the Pacific Coast League's Most Valuable Player. Green became the first Sidewinder to win the MVP award and only the 3rd player in Tucson franchise history to win the award.

The loss drops Tucson to 66-74, 35-37 at home for the season. The Sidewinders head to Portland to conclude their season with a 4-game set against the Beavers. Game one is tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. The scheduled starting pitchers are LHP Michael Gosling (4-5, 5.73) for Tucson and RHP Brandon Emanuel (2-3, 5.64) for Portland.
