Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis and Nashville split their second doubleheader in as many days with the Redbirds taking game one 1-0 and the Sounds hanging on for a 4-3 win in the second game.
In the early game, Memphis shut out Nashville for the third consecutive game with a 1-0 win. 1B Chris Duncan provided all the offense with a solo home run in the second inning. Starter Kevin Jarvis (11-6) scattered four hits over 5.1 innings of work to earn his eleventh victory of the season. Right-hander Brian Falkenborg picked up his second save in the last two nights with a scoreless seventh inning. Ben Hendrickson (6-12) took the loss for Nashville despite tossing a complete game.
In the nightcap, the Redbirds' comeback bid fell short as the Sounds took the game 4-3. Memphis trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh when the first two batters reached on singles. 2B Bo Hart missed tying the game with a three-run home run by inches but drove in a run with a double off the left field wall. RF Chad Allen drove in a run with a ground out before LF John Gall struck out with the tying run on third to end the game. Starter Josh Pearce (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Alec Zumwalt (1-0) earned the win for the Sounds with two innings of scoreless relief.
Memphis and Albuquerque will begin the last series of the year for both teams tomorrow night. The âBirds will send RHP Anthony Reyes (7-6) to the mound tomorrow night to oppose the Isotopes' RHP Ariel Prieto (9-5). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
