Round Rock Express News Release
(Albuquerque, NM) - Former Round Rock Double-A right-hander Travis Smith gave up only one run, a two out, solo homer to Express left fielder Barry Wesson on Thursday night in Albuquerque. Smith scattered only four hits through eight innings and received offensive help from his teammates as the Isotopes banged out a 6-1 win for a series sweep over Round Rock, and eliminated any chance the Express had for a playoff berth.
The Isotopes got the scoring started with two outs in the first inning as 3B Joe Dillon lined the first of two, two out doubles he had on the night, into left field. 1B Todd Sears drove in his twelfth run of the series with a single that scored Dillon, and then 2B Jason Wood cracked the first of his two, two-run homers, that gave the Albuquerque club a 3-0 lead.
Smith held Round Rock hitters in check and at one point retired thirteen in a row before the Wesson homer with two outs in the fifth inning.
Albuquerque put up a three run answer to the Wesson homer in the bottom of the fifth inning, including the second of Wood's two-run homers, and they rode away with a 6-1 win.
Albuquerque remains a half game back of Oklahoma in the American Southern Division pennant chase. The Express open a four game series at 7pm in Nashville on Friday.
