Memphis Redbirds News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Memphis Redbirds were held in check on Thursday night, falling 5-1 to the Gwinnett Stripers at Coolray Field.
Three of the Redbirds' five hits came in the second inning where they scored their lone run. After back-to-back singles put runners at the corners, Clint Coulter lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at the time. Memphis tallied just one more base hit in the final seven frames.
Gwinnett immediately answered back in the third with a Delino DeShields Jr RBI single. They added two more on Tyler White sacrifice flies in the third and fifth innings. Rylan Bannon doubled in a run in the seventh inning to cap off the scoring for the Stripers.
Matthew Liberatore (5-6) saw his shortest start of the season, throwing just 61 pitches on the night. The southpaw allowed three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out one in just 2.2 innings.
The bullpen continued to throw well for Memphis. Zach McAllister tossed his longest outing of the season, lasting three innings and striking out a season-high five batters. Junior Fernandez extended his scoreless streak to eight games with a clean eighth inning.
The Memphis Redbirds (58-55) take on the Gwinnett Stripers (56-58) for game four of this six-game series on Friday evening. RHP Ian Anderson will start for the Stripers, while the Redbirds' starter is yet to be announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT at Coolray Field.
