Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Former Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp outfielder Stone Garrett notched a pair of doubles on Wednesday in his major league debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks at the San Francisco Giants from Oracle Park in San Francisco. Garrett follows Andrew Nardi (August 16, Miami Marlins) as former Jumbo Shrimp making their MLB debuts on consecutive days.
Batting fifth in the Diamondbacks' order, Garrett finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and runs scored in Arizona's 3-2 victory over San Francisco.
Originally selected by the Miami Marlins in the eighth round of the 2014 draft out of George Ranch High School (Richmond, Texas), Garrett reached Double-A Jacksonville in 2019. He played in 119 games for the Jumbo Shrimp, batting .243/.289/.413/.702 with 20 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 63 RBIs, 55 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
Following the canceled 2020 minor league season, Garrett elected free agency. He signed a minor league deal with Arizona in March 2021 and spent the majority of the season with Double-A Amarillo, where he hit .280/.317/.516 with 19 doubles, one triple, 25 homers, 81 RBIs, 65 runs and 17 steals in 103 games.
Garrett moved to Triple-A Reno in 2022. Prior to his promotion, he slashed .275/.332/.568 with 22 doubles, four triples, 28 home runs, 95 RBIs, 73 runs and 15 stolen bases in 103 contests.
In addition to Garrett and Nardi, former Jumbo Shrimp infielder Joe Dunand (May 7, Miami Marlins), right-handers Chad Smith (May 29, Colorado Rockies), Jason Alexander (June 1, Milwaukee Brewers), Aneurys Zabala (June 12, Miami Marlins), Max Meyer (July 16, Miami Marlins), outfielders Jerar Encarnacion (June 19, Miami Marlins) and JJ Bleday (July 23, Miami Marlins), right-hander Huascar Brazoban (July 24, Miami Marlins), infielder Charles Leblanc (July 30, Miami Marlins), left-hander Jake Fishman (July 31, Miami Marlins) and outfielder Peyton Burdick (August 5, Miami Marlins) have also made their major league debuts thus far during the 2022 season.
Garrett is the 953rd player to don both a Jacksonville uniform and play in the major leagues, including the 115th former Jumbo Shrimp. Thirteen former Jumbo Shrimp have debuted in the majors in 2022. The history of Minor League Baseball in Jacksonville dates back to 1904.
