Florida Everblades News Release

AUGUSTA, GA - The Florida Everblades (10-2-1) dominated from start to finish in the highest scoring game in the team's history in a 12-0 rout of the Augusta Lynx (5-7-2) in front of a crowd of 3,005 on Saturday night at James Brown Arena.

The win extended Florida's winning streak to eight straight as the Everblades won their fourth straight over their division rival. In the process of the game, the Everblades set all-time team records for most goals in a game, largest margin of victory, and most power play goals in one game with six. They also tied an all-time team record for most goals in one period with six in the second period.

Individually, the Everblades picked up a hat-trick from Kevin Baker and 14 of 16 skaters registered at least one point. In goal Anton Khudobin (6-1-1) won his sixth straight and recorded his second shutout of the season and seventh blanking of his career by stopping all 20 shots he faced.

The Everblades used a big first period to get things jump started scoring three times to carry a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. In statistically what has been the Everblades worst period for goal scoring this year, the Everblades jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Danick Bouchard cashed in his sixth goal of the season at 5:27 after one-timing a pass from Ross Carlson past Lynx net-minder Riku Helenius. Jacob Micflikier picked up the second assist on the tally.

The games remained 1-0 until late in the frame when the Everblades fired home a pair of goals in a span of 38 seconds. Peter Metcalf gave the Everblades a 2-0 lead with a power play goal at 17:46 when his slap shot from the blue line sizzled past Helenius and into the net. Ryan Lang and Aaron Brocklehurst notched the assists on Metcalf's first goal of the season.

Just 38 seconds later Micflikier recorded his first goal of the season at 18:24. After Helenius stopped a shot by A.J. Thelen, Bouchard skated onto the rebound, but slipped it wide of the right post. Micflikier gathered the loose puck in and dunked it into the gaping cage to open a 3-0 lead.

The second period is when the game turned ugly for Augusta and the officials. The six Everblades goals led to high frustration on the part of the Lynx as the teams combined for two line brawls and a total of 10 players being ejected with game misconducts.

Before the mayhem began the Everblades increased their lead to 5-0 with two goals separated by 12 seconds six minutes in. Lang scored the first of the two by tapping in a good pass from Yannick Tifu at the right post at 6:43. Colin Nicholson tallied his second goal of the season a dozen seconds later after taking a quick pass from Ernie Hartlieb and slammed home his shot from the left circle at 6:55.

The scoring spree continued when Ryan McGinnis notched his first career goal at 9:49. As he exited the penalty box, McGinnis joined Micflikier on a rush into the offensive zone. McGinnis went hard to the right post where he deflected home a good hard pass from Micflikier to open a 6-0 lead.

Florida pushed the score to 8-0 with a pair of power play goals in just over two minutes midway through the frame. Lang collected his second goal of the night with a quick wrist shot from the high slot at 10:57 that beat Helenius high over the glove. Brocklehurst and Metcalf recorded the assists on Lang's fifth goal of the season.

Kevin Baker extended the lead to eight with his 100th career goal with a power play marker at 12:42 on assists from Micflikier and Doug O'Brien. At that point, Helenius was lifted from goal and replaced by Mike Brodeur. Also at that point, the madness began. At 13:54 of the second period the Lynx initiated a 5-on-5 line brawl the led to all five Augusta players begin tossed from the game and four of the five Everblades players being ejected.

Shortly after at 14:21 the Lynx again instigated a brawl that led to Cody Blanshan being ejected from the game. After the shenanigans settle down, the Everblades registered their sixth goal of the period on Baker's second tally of the night with 1:06 remaining in the frame to give Florida a 9-0 lead heading into the locker room.

The Everblades continued to pressure in the third period recording three more tallies. Tifu tied the all-time Everblades record for most goals in a game with the team's 10th when his centering pass from the right circle deflected off an Augusta players skate and into the net at 3:26 for the fourth power play goal of the night.

Late in the third period the Everblades broke the previous goal record that was set on January 7, 2003 vs. Penascola when Micflicker tacked on his second goal of the night with the Everblades on the power play at 16:12. Baker then closed out the scoring with the hat-trick, the fourth of his career, with a power play goal from the right circle at 19:22.

In all the teams combined for 233 penalty minutes and 11 players ejected from the game.

Lynx starting goaltender Helenius took the loss allowing eight goals on 22 shots to see his record fall to 3-3-1. Brodeur finished off the game allowing four goals on 20 shots in the final 27:18.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 6-of-9, while the Lynx finished the night 0-of-4.
