Alaska overcomes third period comeback to defeat Victoria 4-3

Victoria, BC - In a Saturday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces met in the final game of a three-game set. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Aces countered with Chris Holt.

For the first time in this series, Alaska opened the scoring at 10:27 of the first period. On a delayed Salmon Kings penalty, Jordan Foreman took a cross-ice pass from Corbin Schmidt and put the puck into an open net for his fourth goal of the season. The Aces doubled their lead at 16:59 when Luke Erickson put a floating backhander over the glove of Salmon Kings goaltender Jonathan Boutin. Erickson's goal was his fifth of the year. Alaska held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Aces extended their lead to 3-0 at the 12:10 mark of the second period. With the Salmon Kings shorthanded, Aces forward Colin Hemingway took the puck, skated along the goal line and used both an Aces and Salmon Kings player as a screen then slid his tenth goal of the season past Boutin's far pad. The Salmon Kings countered with a power play goal of their own just under three minutes later at 15:03, when Shaun Landolt fired a point shot past Aces goaltender Holt. Landolt's marker was his second of the season. At the end of two periods Alaska led 3-1.

The Salmon Kings provided all the scoring in the third period with two goals. Dan Gendur pulled the Kings within one goal 2:39 into the third period when he netted his fifth goal of the season, scoring on a Gary Gladue rebound from the slot. Olivier Labelle tied the game at 3-3 at the 5:30 mark, converting his 10th goal of the season on a one-time pass from Darryl Lloyd. Shots after 60 minutes favoured the Salmon Kings, 45-28.

In overtime, with the Aces on a 4-on-3 power play, Alaska defenseman Bryan Miller sealed the win at 1:52 with a shot from the high slot that eluded Boutin. Miller's third goal of the season was Alaska's only shot in the extra frame, while Victoria countered with one of their own. Aces 4 Salmon Kings 3 in overtime.

Victoria finished 1/6 = 17% on the power play, while Alaska finished 2-7 = 29%. Final shots were 46-28 for the Salmon Kings.
