Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
DULUTH, GA - Four second period goals including a pair by Matt Siddall doomed the Mississippi Sea Wolves as they fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Brad Schell gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead just 12 seconds into the first period when he snuck behind the Sea Wolves defense and tucked a pass from Jordan Fox under Mississippi's Ryan Munce. The Sea Wolves evened the score at one-apiece when Mathieu Melanson poked the rebound of Mike Wirll's shot under the Gladiators' Josh Johnson 6:31 into the first period.
Gwinnett's Bruce Graham broke down the right side and fired a low shot past Munce on the glove side at 5:20 of the second period to give the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. At 14:22, Matt Siddall bounced a puck from behind the goal line off of Ryan Munce and into the net for his first goal of the game and a 3-1 Gwinnett lead at 14:22 of the second. Just two minutes and nine seconds later, Siddall blasted a one-timer off of a pass from Pat Bateman past Munce. The Gladiators extended the lead to four when Bateman broke down the left wing, beat his man to the outside, cut to the net and went to the backhand to beat Munce for a shorthand goal at 18:20.
Jason Tejchma potted his fifth goal of the year, going to the net to follow up a shot from Mathieu Melanson at 14:15 of the third, but the Gladiators lead was never threatened in the final frame.
Ryan Munce made 23 saves, taking the loss, and the Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-6.
NOTEBOOK: Michael Couch missed his sixth consecutive game with a lower-body injury... Defensemen Chris Zarb and Mike Nesdill also did not play with lower-body injuries... Justin Coutu remains sidelined with an upper-body injury.
