Reign notch two power play goals in loss
FRESNO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliates of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, fell to the Fresno Falcons, 5-2, in front of 2,665 fans at Selland Arena in Fresno Friday evening. Reign right wing Maxime Boisclair and left wing Ryan MacGregor scored for the Reign in the match.
In the first match-up between the two teams in club history, the second place (Pacific Division) Ontario Reign (7-5-1-1, 16 points) and the first place Fresno Falcons (9-4-1, 19 points) met for the first match in back-to-back road games between the teams in two days.
Fresno scored first in the match giving the Falcons the early lead, but the Reign came back to score two back-to-back goals to put the Reign ahead, 2-1. Reign right wing Maxime Boisclair lit the lamp first for the Reign on a power play goal at 8:13 in the first off assists from defenseman Darren McMillan, and right wing Jon Rheault, extending Boisclair and Rheault's point streak to five games. Nearly two minutes later the Reign found the back of the net again as left wing Ryan MacGregor netted his second goal of the season, and the Reign's second power play goal of the contest, as he fired the puck past Falcons' netminder Joe Fallon. Defenseman Dan Knapp and right wing Mike Howe registered the assists. With seven minutes remaining in the stanza, Fresno's left wing Igor Gongalsky found the net to tie the game at two, slipping the puck past Reign goaltender John Murray.
The Reign were unable to light the lamp again in the final periods of play, as Fresno defenseman Matt O'Dette scored the game-winning goal for the Falcons at 2:10 in the second period, with the club adding two additional goals in the third period to take the win with a final score, 5-2.
