Alaska Aces News Release
VICTORIA, BC - Jake Dietrich scored the first goal and assisted on the eventual game-winner as Victoria dealt Alaska its first loss since Halloween, 3-1, in front of 4,429 Friday at the Save-On Foods Memorial Centre.
The Aces saw their five-game winning streak and nine-game unbeaten run come to an end after racing off to the best start in club history. Now 11-3-1, Alaska still maintains a five-point lead over second-place Phoenix in the West Division. The Aces did not start Jean-Philippe Lamoureux in net for the first time this season, as Chris Holt, an NHL-contracted goalie with St. Louis, made his first appearance in 26 days, dating to a 5-2 win for Peoria over Lake Erie in the AHL back on October 26. Holt responded well, recording 36 saves, but his turnover late in the first period allowed Dietrich to score on a backhand wraparound 2:22 before the break.
The Salmon Kings out-shot Alaska 17-7 in the second period but did not beat Holt again until the final minute of the frame, when Dietrich fed Darryl Lloyd for a one-timer from the left circle that gave the hosts a 2-0 edge entering the final 20 minutes. Cam Keith ended Jonathan Boutin's shutout bid and extended his personal point streak to 10 games with his fourth goal of the year at 8:58 of the final period, but the Aces never got the equalizer, despite getting a minute of power play time late in regulation. An empty-netter by Wes Goldie (his 19th goal in 25 games vs. Alaska) sealed their fate with 1:16 remaining.
The rubber match between the two clubs takes place tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. ADT and will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM. The Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. The Aces return home to Anchorage Sunday before heading out again Thanksgiving Day for a game at Stockton Friday, November 28.
