Trenton Devils News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The Johnstown Chiefs defeated the Trenton Devils for the second time in eight days with a 4-1 decision at Cambria County War Memorial Arena Saturday night.

A fast and furious first period led to the Chiefs finally breaking through on a goalmouth scramble in which Mike Bartlett knocked in his third goal of the season at the 19:30 mark.

Sean Berkstresser made it a two-goal lead with an end-to-end rush that concluded with a wraparound goal at the 9:08 of the second period.

While Trenton goaltender Charlie Effinger kept the Devils in the game going into the third period, Codey Burki converted on an odd-man rush with 10:50 left in regulation to make it a three-goal Chiefs lead.

Although Effinger looked solid, Chiefs goalie Kris Mayotte was better, keeping the Devils off the scoreboard until the 15:25 mark, when David Leaderer's wrist shot from the point fluttered into the net. The goal snapped a nearly three-game long scoreless streak.

Alex Penner added a late goal to give the Chiefs a 4-1 win. Mayotte made 30 saves for the victorious Chiefs against 35 stops by Effinger.

The Devils return to action Wednesday night on the road against the Reading Royals, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can listen to the free audio broadcast of the game on www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
