November 13, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (7-1-4-0) beat the Stockton Heat (2-5-0-2) 5-4 in a shootout in front of 6,359 at the AT&T Center on Friday night. Colin Smith scored two goals, his first multi-point game of the season, to earn the First Star of the Game. Andrew Agozzino tallied two assists, and Smith, Mikko Rantanen and Joey Hishon each scored in the shootout to seal the win for the Rampage.
Former Rampage forward Drew Shore got the Heat on the board early, scoring just 3:24 into the contest to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. Marc-Andre Cliché and Smith each scored before the midway point of the period to give the Silver and Black a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Markus Granlund knotted the game at two early in the second stanza, but Mikko Rantanen netted his fourth goal in eight contests, punching the puck past Kevin Poulin to give San Antonio a 3-2 lead at the second break.
Stockton opened the third-period scoring with another goal from Granlund, this one coming on the power play, to even the game at three. Smith potted his second near the midway point of the session, but Garnet Hathaway scored a shorthanded goal late in regulation to force overtime, the league-leading seventh overtime for the Silver and Black.
A scoreless extra stanza led to the first shootout for the Rampage this season. Joey Hishon scored what stood as the game-winner in the skills competition while Roman Will stopped 1-of-3 Stockton shooters and finished with 34 saves on 38 shots.
The Rampage were 1-for-7 on the power play while holding the Heat to one goal on six chances with the man advantage.
Key Stat The Rampage lead the league with seven overtime games played.
Friday's game marked the 150th AHL game for defenseman Hubert Labrie and the 500th professional game for forward Marc-Andre Cliché. Lineup Notes Mikko Rantanen returned to the lineup and played with Andrew Agozzino and Joey Hishon on the Rampage's top line. The move allowed Mason Geertsen, who played as a forward in San Antonio's game against the Texas Stars on Wednesday, to move back to defense. Roman Will made his third straight start in net. Up Next The Rampage host the Texas Stars on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. Individual and season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
