Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch rallied past the Binghamton Senators, 4-3, in overtime tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Joel Vermin, Matt Peca and Luke Witkowski all posted multi-point games, while Tye McGinn notched his first goal with the team during the Crunch's third period comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
The victory improves the Crunch to 6-4-0-1 on the season and maintains a 2-0 lead in the 10-game season series. The Senators drop to 4-8-1-0.
Syracuse goaltender Adam Wilcox earned his second victory, stopping 33 of 36. Binghamton netminder Matt O'Connor allowed four goals on 22 attempts. The Crunch were able to convert on two of three power play opportunities and successfully shut down the Senators on their single man-advantage.
The Senators were first on the board, scoring just 3:13 into the game. Buddy Robinson pulled the puck out from behind the net and threw it across the crease for Danny Hobbs to net from the left goal post.
Peca evened the score halfway through the first period. He skated the puck from the right wing boards and across the slot before firing a wrist shot from the left circle. Witkowski and Vermin earned a point for the assists.
With 59 seconds remaining in the period, the Senators stole back the lead. Tobias Lindberg received a pass from Ryan Dzingel at the blue line. He beat Syracuse defenders and put Binghamton up, 2-1, to close out of the first frame.
The Senators built a two-goal lead late in the second period. While on the penalty kill, Fredrik Claesson stole a weak pass and started an odd-man rush with Robinson. Robinson deked once and beat Wilcox on the backhand.
The third period saw two Crunch power-play tallies to dig the team out from a two-goal deficit. At the 2:13 mark, Vermin lit the lamp from the left wing side off assists from Anthony DeAngelo and Wilcox. Ten minutes later, McGinn tallied his first of the season to force overtime. Peca and Vermin picked up points with the helpers.
At the 3:30 mark of the 3-on-3 overtime period, Jeff Tambellini netted his second game-winning goal against Binghamton this season. Yanni Gourde came around the back of the net and shot the puck out for Tambellini to fire from the slot to down the Senators, 4-3. Witkowski claimed the secondary assist.
The Crunch return to the War Memorial Arena to host the Utica Comets tomorrow at 7 p.m.
