Chicago Wolves News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Joel Armia scored on a breakaway at 2:25 of overtime to lift Manitoba to a 3-2 overtime win over Chicago Friday night at the MTS Centre. Despite having their win streak snapped at six games, the Wolves earned a point in their ninth straight contest.
Forwards Ty Rattie and Danny Kristo scored their team-leading sixth goals of the season as Chicago (8-1-1-1) split a two-game road series against Manitoba.
Manitoba (3-8-1-1) opened the scoring at 10:24 of the first period when Scott Kosmachuk lifted a shot from along the goal line that banked off the side of goaltender Pheonix Copley.
The Wolves answered with Rattie's power-play goal at 14:23 of the first. He snapped a wrister from the right faceoff circle that deflected off a Moose player on its way toward the net.
The Wolves took a 2-1 lead in the second period when Kristo went top-shelf on the power play. Hovering at the top of the faceoff circle, Kristo launched a shot that found space over the left shoulder of goaltender Eric Comrie.
Manitoba pulled even midway through the third period on a goal from Jiri Fronk, who skated from behind the goal into the crease and stuffed in a shot.
Copley (3-1-1) stopped 28 of 31 shots in regulation and overtime as his three-game winning streak came to a close. He kept the game close with several big saves in the third period as Chicago was outshot 11-4. Comrie (1-2-1) finished with 22 saves.
The Wolves wrap up their five-game road trip at 7 p.m. Wednesday with a trip to Milwaukee for an Amtrak Rivalry clash. The team returns to Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, for Salute to Military Families Night, presented by Kia and Magellan. The Wolves then host Star Wars Day at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.
