San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (13-6-2-0) clawed their way out of a 3-1 hole, but ultimately fell to the Utica Comets (16-5-3-0) 5-4 in overtime in front of 5,637 on Friday night at the AT&T Center. Four different players tallied goals for the Rampage and Drew Shore finished with two assists.

Dustin Jeffrey led the Comets with a goal and three assists while Cal O'Reilly added three assists, including the second helper on Alex Biega's overtime game-winner.

A power-play goal by Alexandre Grenier late in the first period gave the Comets the first lead of the game. Jeffrey sent a pass across the crease in front of Dan Ellis, and Grenier was there to bury it before Ellis could get over to cover the right pipe.

Utica opened the second-period scoring just 1:04 into the second frame to make it 2-0. Ellis got a piece of Alex Biega's shot, but it trickled behind him and Ronalds Kenins was there to tip it in.

The Rampage got on the board with a shorthanded goal less than two minutes later, as Brett Olson got free on a break. His rebound shot hit off Joacim Erikkson's back and over the goal line.

Utica extended their lead to two when Bobby Sanguinetti's shot from the point changed directions past Ellis at 7:40.

Steven Kampfer brought the Rampage within one when he tallied his sixth goal of the season near the midway point of the period, giving the Rampage their second shorthanded tally of the game. Alex Petrovic notched his second goal of the season on a San Antonio power play late in the stanza, and the teams entered the second intermission tied at three.

The Rampage took its first lead of the game midway through the final frame with their first even-strength goal of the game, as Connor Brickley sent a shot from above the right circle, and Logan Shaw tipped in the rebound off Eriksson.

With 3:20 remaining in regulation, Jeffrey tallied his first goal and fourth point of the game, beating Ellis to knot the game at four and send the Rampage to overtime for the third straight game. Alex Biega put the puck over the left shoulder of Dan Ellis with 3:17 left in the extra period to seal the win for Utica.
