Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Binghamton Senators scored twice in a span of 2:40 in the second period and tacked on two more in the third as the B-Sens completed a two-game sweep of the Rochester Americans with a 4-1 win Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The loss is the second in a row and third against Binghamton so far this season for the Amerks, who fall to 9-12-1-0 to open the month of December.

Johan Larsson scored the lone goal for the Amerks during the middle frame, with Mikhail Grigorenko and Amerks captain Drew Bagnall adding assists on the night. Nathan Lieuwen started between the pipes for Rochester and finished with 24 saves on 28 shots in the defeat.

Cole Schneider and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each scored a goal and an assist for the B-Sens, with Derek Grant and Max McCormick also notching tallies. Scott Greenham continued his solid play for Binghamton, as he remains undefeated in regulation so far this season with a 29-save effort.

The Amerks peppered Greenham with 10 shots on goal in the first period while holding the puck in Binghamton's zone for most of the opening session, but exited to the locker room looking at a scoreless tie.

After Greenham held the Senators in the game during the first period, Schneider rewarded his goaltender with a second period goal after picking up a loose puck in front and scoring off the post and in to put Binghamton ahead 1-0. Moments later, the Amerks were penalized on a tripping minor and the B-Sens would take advantage. This time, Alex Grant would take a shot from the blueline that was tipped in front by Derek Grant to put Binghamton up by two goals.

Rochester responded 1:48 later when Grigorenko circled around the perimeter of Binghamton's zone, fought off a check and delivered a back-side pass to Larsson. With Greenham out of position, Larsson's one-timer snuck into the empty side, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the B-Sens.

Binghamton added two goals of insurance, including one on a power-play, in the first 7:29 of the third period from McCormick and Pageau to jump ahead by three goals.

The Amerks had their chances in the third period to put Binghamton on its heels and nearly converted on a late-period power-play when Tim Schaller found some space in front of the net and fired a shot following a back-door pass. Unfortunately for Rochester, Greenham slid across and denied Schaller's attempt and preserve the 4-1 win.

The Amerks hit the road for the first of a four-game road swing on Saturday, Dec. 6 when they visit the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The 7:00 p.m. contest will be the second of eight meetings between the intrastate rivals this season and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1280 Rochester. The game will also be televised live locally on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel 26.
