Norfolk Admirals News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Trent Vogelhuber scored the game-winning goal and Anton Forsberg stopped 25 shots as the Springfield Falcons defeated the Norfolk Admirals, 3-2, on Friday night at the MassMutual Center.

Already the hottest team in the AHL, the Falcons were able to get off to another quick start against the Admirals. Winners of their last nine games, Springfield took an early 1-0 lead at the 5:23 mark of the first period. Marko Dano stuffed home a saucer pass from Adam Madaisky that snuck behind Yann Danis, who made his ninth straight start in the Admirals ' net. Denny Urban got credit for an assist as well on Dano ' s marker.

With Andrew O ' Brien serving a double minor in the penalty box, the Falcons added to their lead. This time it was former Admiral Ryan Craig who tapped home another pretty goal to give Springfield a 2-0 advantage. On that same power play, the Admirals answered as winger Max Friberg broke into the zone and rifled home a shorthanded goal. Rickard Rakell and David MacDonald got the assists to cut the Falcons ' lead to 2-1 at 13:41 mark of the first period.

The Falcons struck quickly once again in the middle frame as Vogelhuber redirected a shot from the point to help his team take a 3-1 lead just 1:47 into the period.

With a late man-advantage, Brendan Bell fired a shot that Nic Kerdiles tipped by Falcons goalie Anton Forsberg. The marker came at 17:25 of the second period with William Karlsson receiving an assist as well. The Admirals headed to the locker room trailing the Falcons by a score of 3-2.

Forsberg stood tall between the pipes despite being tested several times late by the Admirals. Kerdiles recorded the best chance, but the netminder stacked the pads to keep Norfolk from tying the game late in the third period. Thanks to Forsberg, the Falcons would skate off home ice with a 3-2 win.

Forsberg stopped 27 of 29 shots, while Danis saved 27 of 30.

Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play.

The Admirals ' six-game road swing continues tomorrow night at Manchester. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
