CHARLOTTE, N.C. (December 10, 2013) - Eric Selleck scored the lone goal for the Rampage, as San Antonio (10-13-0-2) fell to the Charlotte Checkers (9-14-0-1), 2-1, tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 26-of-28 saves in the defeat, while Selleck's goal was his third of the year. Defenseman Ryan Whitney's secondary assist on the goal was his fifth point in his last six games.

The Checkers found the game-winning goal at 13:54 of the third period while on the power play. The Rampage have now surrendered nine power play goals in the last four games (9-for-19).

The Rampage were also outshot on the night, marking only the fifth time in the last 18 games that the opposition has fired more shots on goal than the Silver and Black, who are currently second in the league in shots per game.

The Checkers peppered Markstrom early, but the Rampage netminder stood tall, swatting away any and all chances. His counterpart matched him shot-for-shot, as Charlotte goalie John Muse came up huge with a pad save after a perfectly executed tic-tac-toe passing play from the Garret Wilson-Vincent Trocheck-Bobby Butler line midway through the opening frame.

After being stifled by an imposing Checkers penalty kill, the Rampage got on the board at 13:21 of the second period. Jared Gomes picked up the puck Whitney and tossed it through the crease to Selleck, who blasted a one-timer from the right circle to beat Muse and put the Rampage up, 1-0.

Charlotte wasted no time in retaliating, though, as Chris Terry sent in a long shot that beat Markstrom just 56 seconds later. His ninth of the year tied the game at 1-1.

On just the fourth penalty of the game at 12:07 of the third period, Zach Boychuk one-timed a rocket that beat Markstrom after a clean faceoff win by the Checkers. However, the referee immediately waved it off, citing goaltender interference.

The Checkers cashed in moments after the negated goal on the same power play, as Justin Shugg buried a rebound past Markstrom to put the Checkers up, 2-1, at 13:54.

The Rampage applied pressure in the waning moments, but were unable to beat Muse. San Antonio took the loss to even the eight-game season series against the Checkers to one game apiece.

The Silver and Black have dropped five straight (0-4-0-1) and are now three games below .500 for the second time this season.

The Rampage and Checkers will square off again on Thursday at 6 p.m. to wrap up a four-game road trip. The Silver and Black return to AT&T Center on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the club's ninth-annual Teddy Bear Toss Night.
