
Syracuse Downed 6-2 by St. John's

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Crunch were downed 6-2 by the St. John's IceCaps tonight at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland.
The Crunch, who have dropped their last three contests, fall to 11-9-1-2 on the season. Syracuse allowed a season-high 47 shots on goal and were held to a season-low 15 shots. St. John's converted on two of seven power plays, while Syracuse failed to score on three man-advantage chances.
Jason Jaffray opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:23 mark of the first period. Jaffray's blast from the right circle eluded crunch netminder Kristers Gudlevskis. Crunch captain Mike Angelidis tied the game with his second goal of the season 11:10 into the opening frame. Angelidis buried a cross-crease pass from Cedric Paquette just seconds after a Tanner Richard goaltender interference penalty expired.
IceCaps center Adam Lowry sent the IceCaps into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead thanks to his second goal of the season with 1:57 remaining in the first period. After a centering pass from the right side Lowry was able to slip the puck past Gudlevskis.
St. John's extended their lead to 5-1 after a three goal middle frame. The IceCaps doubled their lead with two goals during a 12 second span seven minutes into the period. Kris Fredheim scored with six seconds remaining on a Connolly slashing penalty and Ryan Schnell extended the IceCaps lead to 4-1 six seconds later. After allowing four goals on 20 shots Gudlevskis was replaced by Cedrick Desjardins. The IceCaps capped the second period with a goal from Will O'Neill with 10 seconds to play.
Paquette cut the IceCaps lead to three with his seventh goal of the season. Paquette flipped a shot from the top of the circles past IceCaps netminder Jussi Olkinuora 9:07 into the final frame. Brett Connolly picked up the lone assist on the play. IceCaps left wing Carl Klingberg scored with 31 seconds to play for the final margin of 6-2.
The IceCaps will host the Crunch for a rematch Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 6:00 p.m.
Crunchables: The IceCaps first period power-play goal was the first power-play goal the Crunch allowed in their last nine road games...Cedric Paquette has seven points in his last five games...With a goal and an assist tonight it is Paquette's third multi-point game this season...
