Utica Comets News Release

Even though the calendar only reads December 10th, Christmas came early for the Utica Comets this year. Team players, staff, and corporate sponsors gathered last evening at Aqua Vino Restaurant for the first annual Comets Holiday Party.

Over one hundred people were on hand to show their support as the holiday season rolled around for the first time in franchise history. The Comets organization and community came out to show not only their holiday fervor, but also to support a good cause. All proceeds from the event went towards team president Robert Esche's Save of the Day Foundation.

"It was good to see Comets players, coaches and sponsors come together during the holiday season for such a great cause," said Comets President Robert Esche.

Since its inception in 2005, the Comets Save of the Day foundation has been committed to promoting the needs of youth throughout the Mohawk Valley and offer contributions to other 501C3 charities in need of support.  Last night's gathering was only the latest in the long line of events held to benefit and support the local community.

"Rob has done so much for the community and for the Comets organization," said defenseman Alex Biega. "The holiday party was a great opportunity for us as players to not only get together to celebrate the holidays but to also help Rob and his efforts with Save of the Day Foundation. That's what the holidays are about- being grateful for what you have and helping those who are less fortunate. This was one of those times where we got to have an amazing night while benefiting a really important cause."

While the evening was successful for the charity aspect alone, it also came with a lighter side. After an impromptu speech from team captain Colin Stuart, everyone in attendance was treated to an admirable rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas from the Comet first year players.  Dressed in a collection of holiday themed sweaters, the rookies proved that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear.

Despite a musical performance that some may call slightly pitchy, the Comets once again were the talk of the Mohawk Valley with another successful event.  After taking an evening away from the ice, the Comets are now back to business as they prepare for Friday's encounter with the Binghamton Senators on Clinton Comets Appreciation Night.  Don't miss the chance to watch a piece of history as the Comets honor where it all began.
