ST. JOHN'S, NL - Spurred by goals from Kris Fredheim and Ryan Schnell - their first as IceCaps - within 12 seconds in the second period, the St. John's IceCaps crushed the Syracuse Crunch 6-2 Tuesday night at Mile One Centre.

Jason Jaffray, Adam Lowry, Will O'Neill, and Carl Klingberg also scored for the IceCaps, who outshot the Crunch 47-15. Zach Redmond added three assists for St. John's, and Jussi Olkinuora backstopped the win with 13 saves.

Mike Angelidis and Cedric Paquette had the tallies for Syracuse. Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 16-of-20 in being tagged with the loss, before he was replaced by Cedrick Desjardins who made 25 saves.

With the Crunch's Luke Witkowski serving two minutes for hauling down Klingberg, Jaffray put the IceCaps on the board first at 8:23 of the opening frame. Taking a feed from Brenden Kichton, the IceCaps' captain one-timed his eighth of the year top shelf past Gudlevskis to make it 1-0.

Just under three minutes later, Syracuse knotted the game at a goal apiece. After a turnover in the neutral zone, the Crunch flew into the IceCaps' territory on a two-on-one rush before Paquette slid a cross-crease pass to Angelidis who fired it in to the yawing cage.

The momentum didn't last for long for Syracuse, however, as Lowry sent the IceCaps to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead at 18:03. After JC Lipon stripped the puck loose in the Syracuse zone, he fired a pass to the front of the net that Lowry picked up and snuck between the legs of Gudlevskis.

In the second period, St. John's jumped ahead 4-1 on two quick goals from Fredheim and Schnell. Moving the puck along the blueline, Jerome Samson dished the disc to Fredheim who wired home a slap shot from the point into the bottom corner at 7:05. Twelve seconds later, Schnell extended the IceCaps' cushion to three when he snuck a shot past Gudlevskis that eluded him above the shoulder.

Then, with 10 seconds remaining in the second frame, O'Neill made it 5-1 for St. John's. After Redmond faked a shot from the point, he fed the puck to O'Neill who launched a hard slap shot past Desjardins.

Syracuse pulled within three midway through the third period, however, when Paquette launched a floating wrister that fooled Olkinuora over the glove.

That was as far as the Crunch would get, as Klingberg - pouncing on the rebound of a Kyle MacKinnon wrister from the high slot - potted his seventh of the season upstairs on Desjardins at 19:29 to make 6-2.
