Albany Devils News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - Joe Whitney scored a goal and setup two more, helping the Albany Devils to their fourth consecutive win Tuesday against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Goaltender Keith Kinkaid made 22 saves in the Devils 3-0 victory during the 11 am outing at Webster Bank Arena.
"We are playing well as of late," Whitney said. "We are taking it one game at a time. It's every guy in the rooms and it's a complete team effort. We are really breaking it down to every shift, playing as a five-man unit. It seems to be working for us and hopefully it will continue."
Whitney increased his team-leading point total to 26 points with his seventh multi-point game of the season. Reece Scarlett and Raman Hrabarenka also scored as Albany improved to 15-7-2-2.
Kinkaid registered his 10th win by making seven saves in the first, six in the second and nine in the third. He is now 10-3-1 on the season with a 2.11 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
"The boys did a great job keeping it outside and made my job really easy," Kinkaid, who leads the AHL with three shutouts, said. "I don't think they had many inside chances or grade-A chances, which is what we wanted to improve on. I think we did a really great job."
Scarlett opened the scoring with a power-play goal 14:47 of the first. The tally, which featured assists from Artem Demkov and Whitney, was Scarlett's team-leading fourth man-up goal of the season.
In the second, Seth Helgeson and Corbin McPherson sprung Whitney for a breakaway at 10:02. The Devils winger fought off a Bridgeport defender and scored far-side for his ninth goal of the season.
Before the end of the period, Whitney sent a pass through a crowd of bodies, finding Hrabarenka for a one-timer at 18:37. The goal was Hrabarenka's second of the season and extended his point streak to five games. Brandon Burlon registered the second assist.
Albany now has at least one power-play goal in nine straight games. The team went 2-6.
"There are good players on the power play," Whitney said. "It starts in practice and we are building chemistry. There is a lot of talk out there and on the bench. Even during the week in practice, we are always talking to each other. We have a close-knit team and I think you can see that on the ice."
The Devils, who improved to 12-1-0-0 when scoring first, outshot the Sound Tigers, 31-22. Albany went 3-3 on the penalty kill.
The two teams will meet again at Times Union Center Friday at 7 pm. Fans can follow the action at ahllive.com or at 104.5 "The Team" ESPN Radio.
