San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (March 13, 2009) - The Rampage doubled up Rockford 43-20 on the shot chart but the IceHogs took their second game in as many chances shutting out San Antonio 3-0 Friday night at the AT&T Center in front of 7,342 fans. The Rampage have averaged over 8,500 fans per game over the last four games.
After an uneventful first period that saw no penalties and 16 combined shots, Rockford made their own break when Tim Brent gloved the puck behind the net, set it down and centered into the crease. Evan Brophey chopped away deflecting the puck to Pete MacArthur on the backside for an open net goal and 1-0 IceHogs lead 5:13 into the second.
Despite outshooting Rockford 26-14 through two frames, San Antonio entered the third trailing 1-0. The last time Rockford visited the Alamo City on February 28th, the Rampage stormed back from a two-goal third period deficit to force overtime before eventually falling in a shootout.
Tonight, San Antonio looked to make their push middle of the third when Dylan Reese seemed to poke the puck through the guard of Corey Crawford. However, the referee had blown the play dead and the IceHogs still held a 1-0 lead.
Later, with the Rampage on a major power play advantage, Chad Kolarik got stripped at the blue line and Adam Hobson raced up the right wing uncontested. His shot ricocheted off the near post to Brent who plowed through the slot and Rampage goalie Al Montoya for an easy shorthanded goal with just over seven minutes left in regulation.
Later, Adam Pinneault pocketed an empty net goal to close the show and cap the IceHogs 3-0 win.
San Antonio entered leading the season series 2-1-0-1, but winless at the AT&T Center. It was only the second time San Antonio had been shut out all season and the first time at home.
Tomorrow the Rampage return to the ice for the second annual Pucks and Paws night when the Houston Aeros visit the AT&T Center. Get a game ticket for you and your best friend as the Rampage promise to âRaise the Woof' tomorrow night.
