Springfield, Mass. - Junior Lessard would score once in regulation and the game-winner in the shootout to beat the Springfield Falcons by the score of 3-2. Jon Sim would tally the second Sound Tiger goal, his sixth of the season, to extend his goal-scoring streak to five games. Charles Linglet scored both goals for the Falcons. Kris Mayotte started in goal for the Sound Tigers and earned his third win of the season, making 26 saves. The Sound Tigers increase their lead for the top spot in the Eastern Conference over the Hershey Bears to three points with the win and improve their record to 41-18-3-5 for 90 points.

While on the power-play five minutes into the first period, Linglet would break the scoreless tie with his fifth goal of the season. Taylor Chorney fed a pass to Ryan Stone in the right circle where Stone one-timed the puck on goal. Mayotte made the save with his blocker, but Linglet was there to slam the loose puck in to give Springfield the 1-0 lead.

The Sound Tigers would even the score, also on the man-advantage, 12:38 into the second period when Lessard's wrist shot from the left circle eluded Falcons' starting goalie Dany Sabourin. Chris Lee dished a pass to Ben Walter in the right corner. Walter walked out and sent a pass through the crease to Lessard at the back post where he ripped his ninth tally of the season through Sabourin to tie the score at 1-1.

Sim would have the good fortune of standing in the right place at the right time when he snapped his sixth goal of the season past Sabourin to give the Sound Tigers the 2-1 lead. On a delayed penalty call on the Falcons, the Sound Tigers controlled play in the Springfield zone. Jesse Joensuu fired a shot that Sabourin stopped but the rebound sailed out the Sim in the slot where he made no mistake burying the puck into the open net to extend his goal-scoring streak to five games. Linglet would pull the Falcons even ten minutes later when he took a one-time shot off a feed from Brule that found its way over Mayotte's glove for his sixth marker of the season. Bryan Young also had an assist on the game-tying goal that would send the game to overtime and the eventual shootout.

Mayotte would allow only one tally in the shootout by Brule and the Sound Tigers received goals from Trevor Smith and Lessard to earn the extra point and beat the Falcons, 3-2.

Mayotte finished the game with 26 saves on 28 shots while Sabourin turned aside 32 of the 34 shots he faced from the Sound Tigers. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-2 on the power-play while Springfield was 1-for-3 on the man-advantage.

Tomorrow night, the Sound Tigers will face-off against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the XL Center at 7 p.m. for the final time the season. Sunday, the Sound Tigers will travel to Hershey, PA to take on the Bears in what could determine first place in the East Division.
