Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Manitoba Moose 4-3 on Friday night in front of 4,301 fans at Copps Coliseum. The Bulldogs scored two goals to tie the game 3-3 in the final minute of the game before Manitoba scored with nine seconds remaining to clinch the win.
Following a scoreless first period where both teams only registered five shots each, the Moose opened the game's scoring at 1:05 of the middle stanza. Jason Krog released a wrist shot from inside the right faceoff circle that beat Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis on the glove side. Michael Grabner and Guillaume Desbiens earned assists on the goal.
Hamilton evened the score at 16:10 of the second frame. Sergei Kostitsyn sent a cross-ice pass to Yannick Weber, who blasted a shot past Manitoba starting goaltender Cory Schneider. Ben Maxwell also earned an assist on the goal.
The Moose regained the lead at 17:28 of the second period. A Bulldogs defender sent a pass behind the net but the puck took a weird bounce of the boards and popped onto the stick of Mike Keane, who was in front of the net. Keane had an open net to bang the puck into as Denis was out of position due to the bounce.
Desbiens added a power-play goal at 5:43 to increase Manitoba's lead to 3-1. Hamilton native Josh Soares fired a shot on net that was saved by Denis. Desbiens grabbed the loose rebound from the shot before jamming the puck past Denis for the goal.
The âDogs scored two late goals to tie the game 3-3. At 19:03 of the final period T.J. Kemp received the puck at the point from Kostitsyn. Kemp hammered a shot that was tipped past Schneider by Mike Glumac. Brock Trotter tied the game at 19:26. Glumac fed a pass to Trotter, who one-timed a shot past Schneider. Kyle Chipchura also earned an assist on the play.
With nine seconds remaining in the game the Moose scored to take a 4-3 lead. Nathan McIver fired a shot that deflected off a Hamilton player and onto the stick of Krog. Krog sent a cross-ice pass to Grabner, who blasted a one-time shot past Denis on the shortside.
