Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros netted the first goal of the game but allowed four-unanswered goals after the first period as the Quad City Flames took a 6-3 win Saturday night at Toyota Center. Houston (32-24-1-8) took a 3-2 first period lead but couldn't find the back of the net in the final 40 minutes as the Flames (27-27-6-6) won the season series 5-2-0-1. Houston visits San Antonio tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. so tune in to Joe O'Donnell on 1070-AM KNTH when Aeros battle the Rampage.
GAME SHEET
Houston got the scoring started early when Benoit Pouliot stole a pass inside the trapezoid behind the net and banked the puck off Matt Keetly's skates and in as he returned to the crease. The goal marked the Aeros fastest to start a game this season at 1:12 into the contest. Quad City tied the game at 6:37 when Brandon Roach netted a power-play goal. The Flames took a 2-1 lead when John Armstrong wrapped around behind the Aeros net and stuffed the puck past Nolan Schaefer's skate at 9:38 in the opening frame.
The Aeros tied the contest at two apiece when Maxim Noreau took a hard shot from near the blue line which Jesse Schultz tapped in for his 21st goal of the season. The power-play goal at 11:26 in the first period was also assisted by Corey Locke. Houston finished the intermission by taking a 3-2 lead with only one second left to play. Marco Rosa won a faceoff in Houston's offensive zone and Brandon Rogers took a shot which was blocked. The rebound went to Morten Madsen who back handed the puck blindly into the net on an Aeros power play.
Quad City recorded the only two goals in the second period giving the club a 4-3 lead heading into the third period. Brad Farynuk tied the game at 14:17 into the period with an even-strength goal, his first marker of the season. Justin Bowers gave the Flames their lead on an unassisted marker with only 2:18 remaining on the clock. The Aeros finished off the period while on a 5-on-3 advantage, which was eventually killed off by Quad City. Houston trailed 20-23 in shots on net after the first 40 minutes of play.
Bowers continued his scoring ways by tallying two more third-period markers, a power-play goal at 13:31 and an empty net marker at 19:24 for the 6-3 final. Houston pulled Schaefer with over a minute remaining for the extra attacker in hopes of a come-back but Bowers' goal put the game out of reach. The loss snapped Houston's three-game winning streak.
Spring Break Specials are available for the next four home games with $23 Center Ice seats, regularly $32. These specials are great for that time year when the weather warms up and the kids are out of school on their Spring Breaks.
