Rainiers Rolled By Reno, 6-3

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers let an early lead slip away in a 6-3 loss to the Reno Aces at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Rainiers rebounded with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the inning. Stefen Romero tied the score with an RBI single, and then John Hicks plated the go-ahead run on a ground out. Patrick Kivlehan rounded out the frame with another RBI single to boost Tacoma's edge to 3-1.

The Rainiers held a 3-2 advantage until Reno rattled off four runs in the top of the sixth. Peter O'Brien cleared the bases with a three-run triple that gave the Aces a 5-3 lead. Matt Pagnozzi capped off the frame with a sacrifice fly that plated one more and placed Tacoma back three runs.

Tacoma tallied a total of six hits in the contest, and all but one of those arrived in the first inning. Ramon Flores stretched his hitting streak to four games after going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Flores is now batting .455 through his first nine games following a trade from New York (AL) on July 30.

Adrian Sampson was dealt the loss in his Cheney Stadium debut after surrendering all six runs, four earned, on eight hits through 6.0 innings. The Sammamish High School product struck out four and walked one in his second start since being traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization on July 31.

The Rainiers (55-60) play the final game of a five-game series with the Reno Aces (55-60) at 1:35 p.m. tomorrow, August 9. Tacoma will trot out right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (1-3, 5.59) The Aces are expected to start right-hander Gabriel Arias (5-3, 5.58)
