Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Des Moines, IA - Carlos Pimentel combined with three relievers on a three-hitter as Iowa blanked Omaha, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in front of 11,253 in the last of five meetings at Principal Park. The Storm Chasers dropped the final four games of the series to fall to 63-53 and temporarily to five games behind division-leading Oklahomah City, which plays later tonight. Omaha was held to a single run on a combined nine hits over the final three games.
John Andreoli led off the home first with a walk, moved to third base on an errant pickoff attempt by starter Clay Mortensen and scored the first run of the day when Adron Chambers followed with a base hit. Another aborted pickoff attempt moved Chambers to third from where he scored when Chrisitan Villanueva bounced into a double play. The veteran right-hander yielded only that one hit, while walking five and fanning three over five frames, but was saddled with the defeat to slip to 7-9 on the season. Casey Coleman retired the Cubs in order in the sixth before he surrendered a lead off long ball to Mike Olt in the seventh that stretched the advantage to three and finished the scoring.
Pimentel permitted two singles, walked one, struck out three and set down the side in order in five frames to notch his career-best ninth win of the campaign. Joe Ortiz came on in the eighth and was lifted after a two-out single by Dusty Coleman in favor of Blake Cooper, who retired pinch-hitter Francisco Pena to end the inning. Brian Schlitter retired the side in turn in the ninth to earn the save, as the four pitchers did not allow an Omaha runner to advance past first base.
The Storm Chasers will send right-hander J.C. Sulburan to the mound in Tuesday's series opener at Werner Park against Memphis left-hander Marco Gonzales. Coverage of the game gets underway with the Metropolitan Community College pre-game show at 6:45 pm and can be heard on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
