Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: The El Paso Chihuahuas (59-54) held off the Albuquerque Isotopes (50-65) comeback attempt Saturday night at Isotopes Park to force a rubber game in the five-game series Sunday evening. Tom Murphy mashed one of the Isotopes four home runs in the game en route to a 3-for-4 evening.

THE TURNING POINT: Albuquerque held a short-lived lead at 2-1 after Tommy Murphy's two-run home run off the videoboard in the second inning before El Paso strung together a couple of crooked numbers on the scoreboard. The Chihuahuas plated two in the third and three in the fourth, but Albuquerque made it interesting in the home half of the fourth with Tim Wheeler's three-run homer, making it 7-6 El Paso. The puppy dogs again plated a trio of runs in the sixth to take control of the game. Down 10-5 in the seventh, Tim Smalling joined the home run brigade with a two-run shot. Cristhian Adames capped the scoring with a solo homer in the ninth, but it was too little, too late as the Chihuahuas claimed an 11-8 victory.

MURPHY'S LAW: Catcher Tommy Murphy belted a two-run home run off the videoboard in the second inning and finished Saturday night's game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. It is his second straight multi-hit effort and sixth in 12 games with the Isotopes. Murphy has also homered in back-to-back starts. The three hits ties for second-most for the backstop this season between Double-A and Triple-A.

OTHER NOTABLES: Cristhian Adames mashed a second-tier home run onto the Creamland Berm in right field for the second-straight night. He has now hit safely in nine straight games. Tim Wheeler and Tim Smalling also belted home runs Saturday evening. Wheeler smashed a three-run shot in the fourth, while Smalling added a two-run blast in the seventh.

FIREWORKS ON SUNDAY: There will be a post-game fireworks extravaganza following Sunday's 6:05 p.m. first pitch, weather permitting.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas will play the finale of their five-game series Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Aaron Laffey (2-3, 4.78 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Albuquerque, while El Paso is scheduled to send right-hander Daniel McCutchen (6-6, 4.36 ERA) to the hill. The Isotopes will enjoy an off day on Monday before welcoming the Fresno Grizzlies to town on Tuesday at 6:35.

IN THE HOLE: Following their nine-game, 10-day homestand, the Isotopes will hit the road for an eight-game road trip to Memphis and Nashville beginning August 15.
