Salt Lake Closes Homestand with Win

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 9) - The Salt Lake Bees crushed 14 hits as they cruised to a 9-6 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. Nick Tropeano struck out a season-high nine batters, but was chased after four and two-thirds innings with five earned runs on his line. Ryan Verdugo (3-4) followed with three and one-third innings of one-hit ball to take the win, his first in a Salt Lake uniform. The Salt Lake Bees crushed 14 hits as they cruised to a 9-6 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. Mike Morin gave up a solo shot in the ninth, but held on to secure the Bees victory.

The two teams traded runs throughout the contest as at least one run was score in seven of nine innings. The Bees took the lead for good in the fifth when Efren Navarro doubled, Kaleb Cowart took a walk and Alfredo Marte knocked in both runners with a double. The 51s tried at a comeback with a run in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to catch the home team. Ryan Jackson and Gary Brown lifted the Bees with three hits each, while Kyle Kubitza and Alex Yarbrough both added a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The Bees take a day off tomorrow before heading to Reno for a four-game set beginning Tuesday. The team returns to Smith's Ballpark on Saturday, Aug. 15 for an eight game homestand.
