Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, WASH. - A bases-clearing triple by Peter O'Brien and workmanlike performance from Jhoulys Chacin (@Jhoulys45) pushed the Reno Aces (@Aces) past the Tacoma Rainiers, 6-3, Saturday night at Cheney Stadium.
Reno (55-59) trailed 3-2 through five innings, but three straight batters reached to start the sixth. Nick Evans drew a leadoff walk, and Danny Dorn then dropped down a bunt single. With runners at first and second, Todd Glaesmann (@toddglaesmann22) grounded a would-be double play to short. Instead, Rainiers' shortstop Chris Taylor bobbled the ball, allowing everyone to move up safely.
And in timely fashion, O'Brien delivered.
O'Brien drilled his fifth triple to the wall in right-center, giving him 79 RBI for the season. The three-bagger gave him his eighth three-plus hit game of the season and first since May 24.
Matt Pagnozzi added a sacrifice fly one out later to make it 6-3.
Like Friday night, it took the Aces just three batters to grab a 1-0 lead. Nick Buss (@chilibuss) began the game with a double and after a groundout, scored on a run-scoring single by Evans.
Tacoma (55-60) wasted no time scoring against Chacin in the home half. The Rainiers sent eight batters to the plate, recording three runs on five hits, including RBI singles from Stefen Romero and Patrick Kivlehan.
Down 3-1, Jordan Pacheco (@Jstylep) cut the Aces' deficit in half with a sacrifice fly in the second.
Chacin (5-3) recovered from his shaky first inning en route to a 7 2/3-inning, three-run performance. He allowed just one hit from the second inning on, scattering six walks with five strikeouts. The 27-year-old threw a franchise-record 128 pitches, eclipsing Zeke Spruill's mark of 123 set on June 9, 2013.
Adrian Sampson fell to 1-1 in two starts with the Rainiers since being acquired by Seattle from the Pittsburgh Pirates via trade. He yielded six runs - four earned - on eight hits in six innings. Kevin Munson (@GOTMUNEY) closed out his second save for Reno, recording three of the final four outs on strikeouts.
Evans' RBI single in the first inning gave him a PCL-best 132 hits and it extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games.
The finale of the five-game series is set for Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium. Right-hander Gabriel Arias (5-3, 5.58) starts for the Aces against right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (1-3, 5.59) for the Rainiers. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
