New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Joey Gallo's grand slam capped a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning, and the Round Rock Express held off the New Orleans Zephyrs, 12-7 on Sunday afternoon.

The Express captured four of five games in the series and sent the Zephyrs to their 10th loss in the last 12 games.

Round Rock scored twice in each of the first two innings, including a two-run homer by J.T. Wise in the second, before sending 11 batters to the plate to blow the game open in the fourth.

Beamer Weems, Leonys Martin and Brett Nicholas all delivered RBI singles, and the Express loaded the bases on a walk to Michael Choice to end the outing of left-hander Matt Tomshaw, the fourth Zephyrs starting pitcher in the last week to make his Triple-A debut.

Gallo greeted reliever Tyler Bremer with a towering drive that cleared the pool area beyond the right field wall for a grand slam, his fourth home run of the series, to give the Express a 11-1 advantage.

Tomshaw (0-1) was charged with 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings and tied a Zephyrs single-game record with four wild pitches.

New Orleans responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jhonatan Solano led off with a walk and scored on a two-out double by his brother, Donovan. Austin Nola and Reid Brignac laced back-to-back RBI singles before Brady Shoemaker clubbed a two-run homer to right, his seventh of the year and first since May 23.

But the Zephyrs could muster just one run against the Round Rock bullpen. Phil Irwin (1-1) blanked the Z's over 2 1/3 innings to earn the win, and Will Lamb and Alex Claudio combined to hold the Z's scoreless until a sacrifice fly by Isaac Galloway in the ninth.

The Express tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a bloop RBI single by Choice, as seven different Round Rock players knocked in at least one run.

Brignac had three hits to bump his hitting streak to six games, during which he is 12-for-26.

The Z's have their final off day of the season on Monday before welcoming the Oklahoma City Dodgers to Zephyr Field for the opener of a four-game set on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
