Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Durham, NC - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders won their third straight game on their current 12-game road swing, beating the Durham Bulls 6-2 Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Edgar Barclay struck out seven over 5.2 innings and the offense plated two runs in three separate innings to lock in the win.
The RailRiders opened an early lead with a pair of first inning runs. Caleb Durbin was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on an Everson Pereira single. T.J. Rumfield plated Durbin with a single and a Carlos Narvaez sac fly brought home Pereira for a 2-0 advantage.
The Bulls evened the score in the bottom of the second on a pair of hits and a walk. With two down and two in scoring position, Logan Driscoll reached on an infield single, which brought in both Dom Smith and Kameron Misner to tie the game at two.
Barclay and Bulls starter Adam Leverett matched innings otherwise. Barclay retired the side in order in the first, third and fourth innings, faced one over the minimum in the fifth and struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the sixth inning to close his outing. Leverett retired 12 straight after facing six hitters in the first inning.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre recaptured the lead in the top of the sixth inning against former RailRider reliever Michael Gomez. Rumfield and Narvaez reached on back-to-back singles and Luis Torrens was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Jeter Downs singled in a pair of runs for a 4-2 SWB lead.
The RailRiders added a pair of runs in the seven on a Narvaez RBI single and a bases loaded walk by Josh VanMeter to extend the edge to 6-2.
Barclay (W, 2-1) earned the win. Josh Maciejewski followed Barclay, pitching 2.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts. Anthony Misiewicz worked the ninth, striking out one to seal the RailRiders third straight victory. Gomez (L, 0-1) suffered the loss for the Bulls.
Downs and Narvaez had two hits and two runs batted in each, while Pereira and Rumfield also collected multi-hit games as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre guaranteed at least a series split with two games left to go in Durham.
Game five of this series is Saturday at 6:35 P.M. with right-hander Cody Poteet starting for the RailRiders against the Bulls and Jacob Waguespack. After this series concludes, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre travels for their first-ever series in Jacksonville before returning to PNC Field on May 7 to host Rochester.
