Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Kansas City, KS - Alain Quijano threw his third complete game of the season to boost the RailCats to a 5-2 victory over Kansas City on Friday night. With the victory, the RailCats kept their two and a half game lead in the wild card and improved to 56-40. Kansas City dropped to 40-57 with the defeat.

Quijano allowed just two runs on six hits and a pair of walks. He set a season-high with seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit and one walk after the fifth inning. Alain also threw a season-high 122 pitches and earned his league-leading eleventh win of the season.

The RailCats scored in the top of the first for the fourth straight game. With one out, Mike Massaro tripled to left-center, his league-leading 17th triple of the year, and stood there with two outs. Reid Fronk reached on an error by the first baseman, Justin Bass, to score Massaro. Fronk then stole second and scored on Craig Maddox's double into the right-field corner to make it 2-0 RailCats.

Massaro's triple set the American Association single-season record for triples in a season.

Kansas City cut the lead in half in the second with an RBI single by Felix Molina. Kennard Jones walked to begin the inning then stole second and scored on Molina's single to right.

The T-Bones tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Steve Yoo and Joey Gathright singled to begin the inning and were bunted into scoring position by Justin Bass. Luis Rivera then grounded out to second to score Yoo from third and Alain Quijano avoided further damage in the inning by getting Jairo Perez to fly out to center to end the inning.

Gary SouthShore wasted no time taking the lead back in the next half inning. Reid Fronk led off the top of the sixth with a base hit and promptly stole second. After Craig Maddox struck out, Brian Kolb singled to left-center to score Fronk and take a 3-2 lead for the RailCats.

Dustin Loggins was removed after getting Drew Martinez to ground out in the sixth inning. Jose Jimenez finished the inning for Loggins; who allowed three runs on six hits and one walk on Friday night. The right-hander struck out five and took his sixth loss of the season.

In the top of the ninth against reliever Chad Robinson, the RailCats made it easy for Quijano to finish off the complete game. Danny Pulfer led off the inning with a single and Adam Klein drew a four-pitch walk. After both Mike Massaro and Cristian Guerrero flew out to left, Reid Fronk doubled down the left field line to take a 5-2 advantage for the RailCats.

The double finished off a dazzling series for Fronk against his former team. In the four-game set, Reid went 7-for-14 with a home run and five runs batted in.

The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Saturday to begin a three-game series with the El Paso Diablos. Listen live to the RailCats and T-Bones beginning at 6:00 p.m. on RailCatsBaseball.com.
