Valencia named an All-Star

AMARILLO, TX - Sox outfielder, Chris Valencia has been named to the All-Star team of the American Association.

The outfielder for Amarillo has accumulated a batting average of .336 in a team-leading 387 at-bats. Valencia has hit in the top of the lineup for the Sox while playing most of the season in right field. This last month, Valencia has taken over duties in center field and hits consistently in the leadoff position. For the season record, Valencia has scored 66 times.

The Playa del Rey, California native has 53 runs driven in for Amarillo this season, including 130 hits overall; 23 doubles, seven triples, and a homerun. With ability to hit to all directions, opposing teams are forced to play straight-up defensively against the left-handed batter. On the base paths, Valencia has stolen twelve bags for the year and in the field, he has only committed four errors while putting away 161 outs and assisting on eight occasions.

Amarillo is entering their final four-game series of the season. They continue their seven-game road trip to Sioux Falls to take on the Canaries with playoffs in their sights. The Sox currently lead the South division by half a game.
