Winnipeg 5, St. Paul 4
With a run in the bottom of the eighth inning the Winnipeg Goldeyes staved off elimination in the wildcard race and beat the St. Paul Saints 5-4. The score was tied at four in the eighth inning when LF Ray Sadler doubled to score 1B Ryan Scoma. Sadler led the team Friday in hits as he went 2-for-4 with an homerun and two RBI but it was 3B Yurendell de Caster that provided the most RBI as he had a three-run homerun in the fifth inning.
Three different Saints had two-hit games -- OF Andy Henkemeyer, 1B Brian Burgamy and OF Donald Blunt. Blunt played in both left and right field during the game and Henkemeyer played all three outfield spots at different points in the night.
Reliever Mark Hardy picked up the win and Chris Kissock earned the save.
Lincoln 6, Wichita 5
After going down four runs in the top of the first inning the Lincoln Saltdogs fought all the way back and eventually walked off on the Wichita Wingnuts 6-5. The Saltdogs had trimmed the deficit to just one run heading into the bottom of the ninth and got the rally started right away. CF Michael Coles, who was 2-for-4 in the game, doubled to start the inning and 2B David Espinosa followed him with a single. 1B Curt Smith, who was already 3-for-4, drew a walk setting up a bases loaded situation for DH Ian Gac.
On the first pitch, Gac connected on a single to end the ball game putting his line for the night at 2-for-5 with two crucial RBI.
For the Wingnuts, 3B Abel Nieves and C Cole Armstrong went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Armstrong's RBI came in the form of his eighth homerun of the season.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Amarillo 2
Fargo-Moorhead's 3B Ronnie Bourquin homered for the 18th time this season and that provided two big RBI in the sixth inning as the RedHawks topped the Amarillo Sox 4-2. Bourquin was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. He also drew a walk. He was the only RedHawk to have more than one hit but both RF Jeremiah Piepkorn and 1B Keith Brachold added an RBI.
For the Sox, it was the middle of the order that had the hot bats in Fargo. 1B Kyle Nichols, LF Joe Weik and DH Jorge Delgado - the four, five and six hitters in the order - each had a pair of hits. SS K.C. Serna provided the team's lone RBI.
For his six innings of work in which he allowed just one earned run on eight hits, Taylor Stanton was credited with the win.
Sioux Falls 7, Sioux City 1
While both teams racked up double-digit hit totals, the Sioux Falls Canaries made the most of their opportunities and took down the Sioux City Explorers 7-1. Leadoff man RF Nick Van Stratten had three RBI to lead the way for the Canaries. He was 2-for-5 in the game. CF Reggie Abercrombie lead the team in hits as he was 3-for-5 with two RBI and his seventh homerun of the season. 2B Stephen King also added an RBI as he went 2-for-3.
The Canaries starting pitcher Kyle Ruwe went the distance in the win and allowed one run on ten hits. He struck out four batters.
For the Explorers, both LF Yusuke Inoguchi and DH Adrian Martinez had three hit games and Inoguchi provided the team's only RBI.
Gary SouthShore 5, Kansas City 2
With three unanswered runs in the final four innings, the Gary SouthShore RailCats took care of the Kansas City T-Bones 5-2. The RailCats took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning when 3B Brian Kolb singled in 1B Reid Fronk. Both players were 2-for-4 in the game and Fronk scored twice and had two RBI.
Gary SouthShore put the game away with two more runs in the ninth inning thanks to a double from Fronk. CF Drew Martinez and RF Mike Massaro added two hits apiece for the RailCats on the night.
The RailCats starter Alain Quijano pitched all nine innings and allowed just six hits for two runs. He struck out seven batters and only one batter, C Trevor Coleman, was able to register more than one hit against him.
Laredo 9, New Jersey 4
The Laredo Lemurs took an early lead and held off the New Jersey Jackals 9-4 in an inter-league affair Friday night. The Lemurs, who were up 5-0 by the third inning, were bolstered offensively by CF Stephen Douglas' 3-for-5, two-RBI night. Douglas also added a homerun.
Laredo 2B Mike Provencher was also impressive at the plate as he went 4-for-4 and scored two runs. For the Jackals, RF Bryan Sabatella and 3B Matt Padgett combined for all four of the team's hits. Padgett drew three walks as he went 2-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs.
Though Laredo's starter Greg Wilborn went just 4.1 innings he was credited with the win.
