Leugim Barroso Named League's 2013 Defensive Player Of The Year

SIOUX CITY, IA - The American Association of Professional baseball announced the 2013 Post Season American Association All-Star Team and end of season awards and Sioux City Explorers SS Leugim Barroso was tabbed as the 2013 American Association Defensive Player of the Year. Barroso was awarded the honor by the votes of the 13-team league's field managers and media personnel.

The 27 year-old Habana, CU native is in his first season with the Explorers. In 91 games at Shortstop for the X's, Barroso leads all American Association shortstops with a .972 fielding percentage, while only committing 12 errors in 433 total chances with 153 put outs, 268 assists, while also turning 59 double plays.

On the offensive side, Barroso has compiled a .273 batting average while collecting 94 hits, 9 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs while driving in 32 runs. Barroso is also currently second on the team with 24 stolen bases (only trails Eliezer Mesa who has recorded 25 stolen bases).

The Sioux City Explorers will play their final home game of the 2013 season tonight and will finish the 2013 regular season with a three game series in St. Paul starting tomorrow.
