Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks RHP Taylor Stanton has been named the American Association Pitcher of the Year, as voted by the league's managers and media members. Stanton will be making his final regular season start tonight against the Amarillo Sox at Newman Outdoor Field at 7:02 p.m.
Stanton was the ace of the RedHawks rotation this season, going 8-4 with an American Association-leading 2.48 ERA in 18 starts. In 120.0 innings pitched, he has allowed 38 runs (33 earned) on 107 hits. Stanton has struck out a team-high 102 batters, walked just 29 and has held opponents to a .237 batting average against him.
In addition to leading the league in ERA, Stanton is tied for second with three complete games this season, including one shutout. He posted quality starts in 15 of his 18 games this season.
Stanton is in his first season with Fargo-Moorhead. He pitched the previous five seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization. Stanton reached the Double-A level with the Mariners in both the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He was selected by the Mariners in the 26th round of the 2008 draft out of Diablo Valley (CA) College.
"Taylor has been outstanding for us all season," said RedHawks Manager Doug Simunic. "He has been a steadying force in the rotation and has been our ace all season."
Stanton is the sixth RedHawks hurler to earn league Pitcher of the Year honors. He joins Gino Caruso (1997, LHP), Jeff Bittiger (1998, RHP), Blaise Ilsley (1998, LHP), Jason Pearson (2000, LHP) and Brandon Culp (2005) as pitching award winners.
