Power Play Sparks Stars to 5-4 Shootout Win

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Three power play goals by the Texas Stars erased a 3-0 deficit and then Jack Campbell made the key saves in the shootout to wrap up a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday night in front of 5,248 fans in attendance at Cedar Park Center.
Brendan Ranford scored two goals in the win, plus the shootout-winner. Travis Morin picked up an assist in his first game for Texas (36-23-6-3) since Feb. 14, and Campbell stopped all three Milwaukee shooters he faced in the shootout to preserve the victory.
Texas visits the San Antonio Rampage at 4 p.m. CST Sunday.
Milwaukee (41-21-3-2) opened up the scoring on the power play from Vladislav Kamenev's one-time shot in the right circle at 7:34 of the first then added two more in the second to make it a 3-0 score. Cody Bass tipped a point shot at 4:09 of the middle frame and Pontus Aberg buried his 19th of the season three minutes later. Texas pulled starter Maxime Lagace for Campbell, and the Texas power play went to work from there.
Ranford capped off a counter-attack rush at 16:08 of the second when he snapped home his 18th of the season off assists by Matej Stransky and Julius Honka. Just over two minutes later, Curtis McKenzie located a loose puck at the left side of the goal crease and stuffed it past Milwaukee's Marek Mazanec for his 19th of the season. Five minutes into the third, Ranford deflected Mattias Backman's point shot to knot the score.
Gemel Smith tapped home a loose puck at 13:44 of the third to give Texas their first lead of the game on an even-strength tally, but Patrick Mullen tied the score with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Jason Dickinson and Morin were denied in their shootout attempts for the Stars. Ranford's winner came in round two. Kevin Fiala, Matt White and Frederick Gaudreau were the three Milwaukee shooters stopped by Campbell.
The Stars finished 3-for-5 on the power play. Milwaukee went 1-for-5.
Lagace stopped 10 of 13 shots in his start for Texas. Campbell finished with seven saves on eight shots to earn the win. Mazanec stopped 23 of 27 shots in the loss for Milwaukee.
