Crunch Eclipse Americans, 3-1
March 26, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch continued their five-game win streak as the team eclipsed the Rochester Americans, 3-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
The Crunch came out strong, building a three-goal lead off tallies from Jonathan Drouin, Yanni Gourde and Ryan Martindale before the Americans found the back of the net. Syracuse staved off a comeback to pick up their third win against Rochester and move to 30-25-10-3 on the season.
Kristers Gudlevskis recorded his fifth-straight win, making 39 saves between the pipes for the Crunch. Americans goaltender Andrey Makarov allowed three goals on 32 shots. Syracuse converted on 1-of-2 power play opportunities and killed all four Rochester man-advantages.
At the 8:11 mark of the first period, Drouin lit the lamp in his third consecutive game. He received the puck from Matthew Peca and ripped a wrist shot from the top of the left circle while on the power play. With 5:10 remaining in the frame, Syracuse went up by two. Henri Ikonen backhanded a pass for Gourde to one-time from the slot. Martindale picked up the secondary assist on both markers.
Halfway through the second, Martindale potted his fourth of the season. He threw one on net from the right wing side that appeared to be stopped by Makarov, but slid past him and across the goal line. Gourde and Ikonen assisted on the goal.
Nick Baptiste finally solved Gudlevskis with the help of Joey Mormina with 2:10 remaining in the middle stanza, but Syracuse shut down the comeback effort and secured a win.
The Crunch are back in action on Friday, April 1 when they host the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m.
Syracuse Crunch single game and season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased either in person at the Crunch Box Office located in the War Memorial at 800 South State Street in Syracuse or by calling the office at 315-473-4444.
