St. John's IceCaps News Release
TORONTO, ON - The IceCaps rallied hard but couldn't complete the comeback in a 5-3 loss to the Toronto Marlies at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday afternoon.
Brett Lernout (from Nikita Scherbak and Charles Hudon) opened the scoring just 2:27 into the first, but the Marlies then scored four straight tallies to make it a 4-1 game. Bud Holloway cut the lead in half in the second, followed but Hudon's sixth goal in five games to make it a one-goal game.
The IceCaps couldn't pot the game-tying goal before Toronto deflected the puck past Zach Fucale for a final score of 5-3. Fucale stopped 35 of 40 shots in the game, while Marlies netminder Antoine Bibeau made 16 saves in the victory.
The IceCaps finish up a seven game road trip on Tuesday night (8:30 pm) as they rematch the Toronto Marlies at the Ricoh Coliseum.
Voting for round one of Mascot Madness is open until Monday, March 28 at 3:30 PM NT. Vote here for Buddy the Puffin to be the best mascot in the AHL!
