Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - Jeremy Smith came up big on the road and made 32 saves to get the shut out, his first of the season and 13th of his career. Seth Griffith and Max Talbot each tallied two goals in the 5-0 victory. It was a homecoming of sorts for Talbot - who wore the captain's "C" tonight - as he played for the WBS Penguins for parts of 3 seasons between 2004-2007.
The Max Talbot, Seth Griffith, Brian Ferlin line had quite a showing in the first period, collecting 8 points between the three of them. Griffith struck first when he finished Tommy Cross's cross-crease pass with a nice one timer. Talbot picked up the secondary assist.
Griffith netted his second of the period 2:17 later. Talbot unloaded a slap shot from the top of the left circle, Ferlin was in front of the net to get a stick on the rebound, but it was Griffith who managed to crash the net and bury the puck in the pack of the net.
Talbot contributed his first goal and third point of the period 16:50 into the 1st. His wrist shot from the high slot made it 3-0 for Providence - Griffith and Ferlin credited with the helpers.
The P-Bruins did not let up in the second period, beating the Penguins to nearly every 50/50 puck and playing a fast, 200-foot game. Colin Miller added a tally 13:38 into the second with a big slap shot from the blue line going bar-down on Jarry.
Talbot picked up his second goal of the night early in the third to put the P-Bruins up 5-0. This marked his 8th goal of the season and 4th point of the night. Providence continued a solid possession game towards the end of the third to ensure the shut out.
The Providence Bruins will be back at home at the Dunk on Saturday April 2nd against the Hershey Bears.
